A Reference Website?
A reference website is similar to a reference textbook. Users might use it daily for information they need to complete tasks. The website might contain how to articles for mechanics. Mechanics do different types of jobs on cars and may need a refresher on how to do a brake line replacement after they have been solving electrical issues for the past few weeks. People can’t remember everything about all the work they must complete which is why we take notes and record information in books. These tools are for our reference.
Reference Website Advantages
A reference website is better than a reference textbook. With a reference website you can search for information on topics. With a search bar integrated into a webpage you can search for thanksgiving recipes and choose from a list of search results. Information on recipes can be formatted in various interesting layouts that make it easier for someone to find what their looking for. Recipes can be organized in a grid with images and a few lines of text to let you know what type of recipe it is and a user can click into it to learn more or keep searching other tiles. A more visually pleasing layout that makes finding information easier enhances the user experience which increases user satisfaction. If a reference website becomes popular and receives a lot of traffic it can generate money through monetization of content. If there are enough eyes, advertisers will pay for add placement on popular webpages.
Reference Website Types
Some reference websites online are references for programmers. Programmers have lots of common tasks they have to do every day and cannot keep all that information in their memory. Sometimes programmers need to use a utility method for string manipulation and have to look up how to use the API class many times. Even Doctors rely on reference websites daily. There are specific dosing guidelines for medications that they need to double check before putting a patient on a type of medication. Some patients take more than one medication and Doctors must check the interactions of medications when taken together. They look up this information online. It is quicker than using a textbook. Each Doctors office doesn’t have a private library that has the capacity to contain a 1000 textbooks. The internet can handle the capacity requirements of the amount of information people need to look up daily.
